Okay, listen up, buttercup. This "Office Works" is a play on words. See, it sounds like "office works," but it's actually the name of a store. And because you lose a pencil, you go to "Office Works" (the store). And the author implies this store "solved loads of pencil cases" which is another way of saying they sold a lot.
