Apple and Orphan

When we talk about an apple getting "picked," it means someone harvests it, takes it off the tree. But when it comes to orphans, "picked" has a different, much darker meaning. It means being chosen, adopted into a family. And the sad, based fact here, you big softie, is that not all orphans get picked. Get it?
