I think what they need is just better communication skills, it seems that both of them lack that and have a problem properly communicating which makes the rumors worse

I'm not saying you and Ethan should break up, I think you two are perfect for each other, but I think you may need to reconsider your approach to the relationship

And what Wade said is also true, if there are problems with communicating, working on that is definitely something that could help
