He initially called for transparency, but then he backtracked on pushing for their full release, saying the administration needed "space" to vet them. He also got into a fight with Democratic senators who accused him of delaying the swearing-in of a new representative, Adelita Grijalva, because her vote would be the final one needed to force a vote on releasing all the files. He even made a confusing claim that Trump was an "FBI informant" against Epstein, which he later walked back.
