A bus can fit in the same lane as a car because lanes are built wide enough for the biggest vehicles that are allowed on the road, not just regular cars. Cars actually don’t use up the whole lane, they just sit in the middle with extra space on each side so drivers can stay in their lane without hitting anything. Buses are taller and longer, but their wheels are about the same distance apart as a car’s, so they still fit between the lane lines. It just looks huge compared to a car, which makes it seem like it shouldn’t fit, but the lane is made for it, so as long as the driver stays centered, it fits fine.

Buses carry more people because they use their space much more efficiently. Cars are designed for comfort, with wider seats, thicker doors, storage areas, and more personal space, so usually only about 3 people fit across. Buses are only somewhat wider, but that extra width allows 4 seats plus an aisle, and their interiors are packed tightly with narrow seats, vertical walls, and standing room, while also being much longer than cars, so they can repeat that seating layout many times and carry dozens of people.

I say dumb shit all the time too.

Mal, it's width not length that decides whether a vehicle can fit in a lane
