The Lighthouse Keeper of Sleep

There was once a small island, far out in a calm sea, where no cars drove and no phones rang.

On the island stood a lighthouse, but it wasn't for ships. It was for dreams.

Every evening, an old keeper named Milo would climb the 33 wooden steps to the top. Not fast. One step at a time. One, two, three... listening to the wood creak softly.

At the top, he would polish the big golden lamp.

As the light began to turn, slow and warm, it would sweep across the water. And wherever the light touched, the world grew quiet.

First, it touched the waves, and the waves stopped rushing. They just breathed, in and out, in and out.

Then it touched the small boats in the harbor, and they stopped rocking and rested.

Then it touched the houses on the far shore, where people were reading, yawning, pulling up blankets.

And if you were lying still right now, the light would find you too.

The light would turn again. Slow. Warm.

It would touch your forehead, and your thoughts would get softer, like clouds getting farther away.

Milo would stay up there all night, turning the light. Keeping watch. So you didn't have to.
