It is real. Due to the industrialization of society, modern industries have been releasing high amounts of greenhouse gasses such as carbon dioxide and methane. Greenhouse gasses absorb infrared radiation and then releases the energy over time rather than the light reflecting directly to outer space. This results in the radiation getting trapped in our atmosphere, which due to the industrial levels of emissions heats it up, leading to adverse changes in the climate.
