Listen up, you chucklehead! The "dye" and "dyed" sound the same but mean two different things. "Dye" is the stuff you use to change the color of things. "Dyed" is the past tense of "die," which means to, ya know, kick the bucket. The joke is that the person drank dye (the color stuff), but they are saying they only "dyed" (almost died) a little.
